It is always a good idea to consult a professional. Some of these consultants are focused on cultural organizations, and those who are not been recommended by the members of the CIMAM Board.

The UK and Abroad

Ki Culture. A non-profit organization that provides sustainable solutions for cultural heritage. Ki Culture provides solutions to promote sustainable practices for professionals and leverage cultural heritage to effectively make an industry-wide impact.

Curating Tomorrow. A consultancy for museums, the heritage sector, and anyone interested in creating a better future. By Henry Mcghie. Based in the UK and working abroad.

Julie’s Bicycle. A London-based charity that supports the creative community to act on climate change and environmental sustainability. They provide services to enable embed environmental sustainability in work, allowing to demonstrate action on climate change. Based in the UK.

Gallery Climate Coalition: Gallery Climate Coalition (GCC) is an international community of arts organisations working to reduce our sector’s environmental impacts. GCC’s primary goal is to facilitate a reduction of the sector’s CO2e emissions by a minimum of 50% by 2030, as well as promoting zero waste.

United States

Sustainable Museums. Strategies and networks for cultural institutions committed to fostering environmental sustainability, responding to climate change, and supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals. By Sarah Sutton. Based in the US.

Environment & Culture Partners. ECP supports areas where the cultural sector can address environmental issues including air quality, water quality and conservation, waste reduction, habitat and biodiversity preservation, and climate mitigation and adaptation. We work to mobilize cultural institutions to participate in, message and model, and work with other sectors and their communities for climate action and resilience. Based in the US.

Art to Zero: Art to Zero engages directly to develop and implement climate action plans, providing access to resources and discovering solutions. Run by Charlotte Perrottey, Ellen Langan and Zach Miner.

Art Switch: Art Switch is a NYC/Amsterdam-based nonprofit started in 2019 in order to mediate and accelerate a climate conscious shift in the arts. Art Switch functions as a knowledge center, organizing conferences, programming, and exhibitions on a global scale. By bringing together art professionals and academics, Art Switch stimulates resource sharing, networking, and publishing to collectively define the climate-forward strategies of tomorrow’s arts sector. 

Art + Climate Action is a San Francisco Bay Area collective dedicated to building a sustainable art world. A+CA brings together museums, galleries, non-profit art spaces, studios, art advisors and art patrons to better understand the climate impact of our sector and create the environmentally conscious art community we need. They support education about CO2 emissions and help create customized climate action plans at no cost to Bay Area arts organizations.

Art into Acres is an artist-run, non-profit environmental initiative. Founded in 2017, with an initial donation by Life Trustee of the Museum of Modern Art Agnes Gund, the non-profit supports large-scale land conservation with a focus on climate, Indigenous peoples and beta-diversity. The initiative is stewarding the new, permanent conservation of 30.2 million acres of tropical and boreal forests with support by artists, galleries and institutions, in collaboration with matching funds partners.

Museums & Climate Change Network: is a group of professionals who are concerned with extending and improving communication on the Anthropocene, including climate change, local and global environmental change, and supporting people to find ways forward in an increasingly challenging world.

LHL Consulting: Laura Lupton is an art and climate consultant and solution generator. LHL Consulting is an incubator for ideas that center art, climate, and our collective future. We see a future where art is foundational to a climate-conscious, resilient, and equitable world. Our goal is to build capacity within the art sector to shift paradigms and practices towards these models. We identify blocks to change and create pathways around them. We advance sector-wide initiatives and provide tailored sustainability coaching and consulting for galleries, institutions, and artist studios. 

Arts Earth Partnership: The Arts can lead the way to transforming our planet. We believe that artists and arts organizations are amongst the most impactful change-makers of the world. With their influential social and economic power they can drive a regenerative change to positively impact the planet and culture.

Canada

Coalition of Museums for Climate Justice: Mobilizes and supports Canadian museum workers and their organizations in building public awareness, mitigation and resilience in the face of climate change.

Centre for Sustainable Curating: Supports research, exhibitions, and pedagogy focused on environmental and social justice.

Singapore and Australasia

engeco. Offers expert advice on energy and climate change strategy in Australasia. They provide clear, achievable strategies to help companies, NGOs, and governments prepare for the major transition to a low carbon, alternative energy future. Based in Singapore and working in Australasia.

Paia. A team of dedicated sustainability specialists committed to working alongside companies to understand the business risks and opportunities that sustainability issues pose, and how best to apply those within existing company structures and strategies. Based in Singapore and working globally, but with a particular focus on Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia.

Ere-S. With over ten years of experience in producing and assuring sustainability reports for many high-profile companies in Southeast Asia, Ere-S is Singapore's leading corporate sustainability consultant.

CLIMARTE is an initiator, an educator and a catalyst for artists and arts organisations to engage in climate-focussed and socially engaged exhibitions and events. Established in 2010, CLIMARTE works to harness the creative power of the arts to inform, engage and inspire action towards a fairer, zero emissions future. Underpinned by climate science, it seeks, through the arts, to amplify and mobilise public responses to the climate crisis.

Museums for Future: We are a non-profit, independent organization that unites a global community of museum professionals and cultural institutions. In our mutual aim to remain below +1.5°C global heating - as stipulated in the Paris Climate Agreement - and to establish global climate justice, we are an alliance to our children and the best available science.

Europe

NEMO Sustainability and Working Group: This working group contributes to the sustainable development of the European museums through research and advocacy and  provides a space to exchange knowledge and experiences aligned with tackling the climate crisis. 

Spain and Latin America

Metroeconomica. Specialized in economic analysis, public policy, environment, climate change and green finance. From local to global. We work for a wide range of clients, including national, regional, and local governments, public and private sector companies, and multilateral organizations. We also participate in research projects and innovative initiatives. Based in Spain and working worldwide.

ECODES. Measures and evaluates the impact generated by the activities and projects of companies, organizations, and public administrations. They offer different activities and services to be able to act now, to implement the common agenda of humanity: the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement. CeroCO2. Since 2005 calculating, reducing and offsetting carbon footprints to tackle the climate crisis. CeroCO2 proposes concrete actions for climate protection, facilitating and promoting the involvement of all social actors. Based in Spain.
