CIMAM 2024 Annual Report

We are pleased to announce the publication of the CIMAM 2024 Annual Report, which highlights the key activities, programs, and achievements of the past year.
The report reflects CIMAM’s ongoing commitment to supporting modern and contemporary art museum professionals through knowledge exchange, ethical leadership, and best practices. It offers an overview of our global membership network, as well as the strategic initiatives developed in the CIMAM Working Groups.

CIMAM 2024 Key Highlights
Global Reach and Community Growth
- Connected over 900 members from 87 countries, reinforcing CIMAM’s role as a global platform for knowledge exchange.
- Welcomed new institutional members and patrons, strengthening collaborative initiatives such as the Free Admission Program and CIMAM Connects.
Annual Conference in Los Angeles and Travel Grants
- Held in December 2024, co-hosted by MOCA Los Angeles, Hammer Museum, and LACMA, addressed the theme: “Sustainable Futures: How? When? For Whom?”.
- Gathered 270+ professionals from 50 countries.
- Featured 21 guest speakers and was supported by the Getty Foundation.
- 34 travel grants awarded to professionals from 23 countries, ensuring diverse participation.
Recognition of Outstanding Museum Practices
The CIMAM Award for Outstanding Museum Practice 2024 was presented to:
- Istanbul Museum of Modern Art
- Rio de Janeiro Museum of Modern Art
- Bohdan and Varvara Khanenko National Art Museum, Kiev.
Honored for promoting gender equality, social inclusion, and community participation.
Ongoing Programs and New Initiatives
Continued the Rapid Response Webinars Program with six sessions on urgent topics:
- Indigenous perspectives in curatorial practice.
- Climate-sensitive architecture.
- AI in museums.
- Institutional leadership in turbulent times.
Launched CIMAM Connects, fostering member-led conversations on shared interests.
Museum Watch Program
- Actively monitored cases of poor governance, censorship, and institutional risk.
- Ethical Leadership and Advocacy
- Reinforced the role of museums as trusted public institutions.
- Addressed contemporary challenges, including the rise of censorship and threats to artistic freedom.
Patron Support
Welcomed new eleven patrons and supporters in 2024, enhancing CIMAM's ability to support ethical leadership and community-building efforts.
Vision for 2025
- Commitment to collective action, ethical leadership, and knowledge-sharing.
- Continued focus on strengthening museums’ impact as agents of social development.
- New research project to define ethical principles guiding the relationship between artists and museums, emphasizing transparency, fairness, and human rights.
