About the Pinacoteca de São Paulo

The Pinacoteca de São Paulo is a visual arts museum focused on Brazilian production conceived from the nineteenth century to the contemporaneity, always considering dialogues with various cultures of the world. Founded in 1905 by the Government of the State of São Paulo, the Pinacoteca is the oldest art museum in the city. And since then, it has been holding exhibitions of its renowned collection of Brazilian art and temporary exhibitions of national and international artists. The Pinacoteca also develops and presents multidisciplinary public projects, in addition to hosting a comprehensive and inclusive educational program.

The original collection was formed from the transfer of 20 works from the Paulista Museum of the University of São Paulo, along with 6 others acquired by important artists in the city such as Almeida Júnior, Pedro Alexandrino, Antônio Parreiras and Oscar Pereira da Silva, especially to form the new collection.

Over the years it has formed a significant collection. Currently its collection has about 11 thousand pieces, among which are works by important Brazilian artists such as Anita Malfatti, Lygia Clark, Tarsila do Amaral, Almeida Júnior, Pedro Alexandrino, Candido Portinari, Oscar Pereira da Silva, among others.
