• About the Annual Conference

  

  The Annual Conference is CIMAM’s most important meeting throughout the year. It is attended by directors and curators of modern and contemporary art museums and collections and independent professionals. The first CIMAM Annual Conference took place on July 5th 1962 in The Hague.

• Annual Conference 2024 Los Angeles

  

  The 56th CIMAM Annual Conference will be held in Los Angeles from December 6th to 8th, 2024. The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), and the Hammer Museum at UCLA will jointly host the event, giving attendees an excellent opportunity to discover the city's exceptional contemporary art history, diverse culture, and vibrant artistic landscape.

• Annual Conference 2023 Buenos Aires

  

  The Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires, under the auspices of the Government of the City of Buenos Aires, hosted the Annual Conference of the International Committee of Museums and Collections of Modern Art (CIMAM) in November 9-11, 2023.

• Annual Conference 2022 Palma

  

  The CIMAM 2022 Annual Conference will take place 11 – 13 November hosted by Es Baluard Museu d'Art Contemporani de Palma (Mallorca), Spain.

• Annual Conference 2021 Poland

  

  The CIMAM 2021 Annual Conference took place 5 – 7 November hosted by the Muzeum Sztuki in Lodz and NOMUS New Art Museum in Gdansk, Poland, as initially planned in 2020.

• Annual Conference 2019 Sydney

  

  The CIMAM 2019 Annual Conference will be held in Sydney, Australia on 15–17 November, hosted by the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia. The Post-Conference Tour will be to Brisbane and will include guided tours by Aboriginal custodians on country on 18–19 November 2019.

• Annual Conference 2018 Stockholm

  

  The CIMAM 2018 Annual Conference, titled The Museum in Transition, was held in Stockholm, Sweden on 2 – 4 November, hosted jointly by Moderna Museet, Bonniers Konsthall and Magasin lll Museum & Foundation for Contemporary Art.

• Annual Conference 2017 Singapore

  

  CIMAM’s 2017 Annual Conference (10–12 November 2017) was co-organized by CIMAM and hosted by the National Gallery Singapore. A pre-conference tour was organized to Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam on 8 and 9 November 2017 and the post-conference tour this year was organized to Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Indonesia on 13, 14 and 15 November 2017.

• Annual Conference 2016 Barcelona

  

  CIMAM’s 2016 Annual Conference (18–20 November 2016) was organized by CIMAM, hosted by the Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA), CaixaForum. Cultural Center of ”la Caixa” Foundation, the Fundació Joan Miró and the Fundació Antoni Tàpies. A post-conference tour was organized to San Sebastián, Bilbao and Santander on 21 and 22 November 2016.

• Annual Conference 2015 Tokyo

  

  CIMAM’s 2015 Annual Conference (7–9 November 2015) was organized by CIMAM with the support of the Executive Committee of CIMAM 2015 Annual Conference Tokyo, the Agency for Cultural Affairs Japan, in collaboration with ICOM Japan, the Japanese Association of Museums and the Japanese Council of Art Museums. It was also hosted by the National Art Center, Tokyo and the Mori Art Museum.

• Annual Conference 2014 Doha

  

  Over 200 delegates attended the CIMAM 2014 Annual Conference in Doha, Qatar, hosted by Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art. The city of Doha provided the opportunity to discuss artistic and museum practices in the region with the most renowned experts coming from 52 countries.

• Annual Conference 2013 Rio de Janeiro

  

  Titled "New Dynamics in Museums: Curator, Artwork, Public, Governance" the 2013 CIMAM Annual Conference was hoted by MAM Rio – Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro, 12-14 August 2013. Post-conference tours were organized in Rio de Janeiro and Brasilia. Attended by a total of 159 delegates from over 49 different countries.

• Annual Conferences since 1962

  

  The list of Annual Conferences since the first CIMAM Annual Conference took place in 1962 in The Hague. Since then the Committee has celebrated 50 conferences that have been held in over 30 different cities around the globe.
