Pilar Rios

Biography

Pilar Ríos is a Peruvian historian who graduated from the National University of San Marcos (UNMSM). She earned an MA in Andean Studies from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP) in 2011 and has completed additional training in Education for Development and Data Analysis for Culture.

She joined the Museo de Arte de Lima (MALI) as Registrar in 2012, where she contributed to implementing the museum's collections management system and coordinated cataloguing, loans, publications, and collection logistics. She also managed MALI's touring exhibitions for ARCO Madrid in 2019, overseeing loans, insurance, shipping, and logistics. In 2020, she was appointed Curator of Collections, assuming responsibility for the museum's art collection, library, and archives. In this role, she developed policies for archival management and led the implementation of systems for managing, digitising, and providing access to MALI's library and collections.

As a consultant, Ríos led workshops for museum professionals through the British Council's International Museums Academy, supporting the adaptation of the SPECTRUM 5.0 collections management standard to the Peruvian context. She has also been invited to speak by the Association of Registrars and Collections Specialists (ARCS) and the TyPA Foundation.

Between 2023 and 2024, she served as Head of Collections, Conservation, and Restoration at the Museu de Arte de São Paulo (MASP), where she supervised key initiatives in collections care and conservation. She subsequently joined the National Museum of Archaeology, Anthropology and History of Peru (MNAAHP), contributing to the Research Department and developing procedures for scholarly publications. She is currently part of the Exhibitions and Publications Department at MALI while also teaching in the master's programmes at UTEC and PUCP.
