Luna Hapsari

Biography

Luna Hapsari is a curator and cultural manager based in Indonesia. Her work explores the intersections of history, community, and art through curatorial practice, arts management, and collective care, with a focus on reexamining dominant narratives and challenging centre-periphery dynamics.

As an independent curator, Luna leads the revitalisation of the Banda Cultural Museum in Banda Neira, Maluku, a site often described as the “ground zero of colonialism” in Indonesia. She is also the co-founder of Banda Artepelago, a community-based art space dedicated to contemporary Bandanese culture. Luna serves as co-curator of (echo~logy), the fifth edition of Baan Noorg Collaborative Arts & Culture’s Rural International Contemporary Art biennale in Ratchaburi, Thailand.

Alongside her independent practice, Luna has over six years of experience in arts and cultural project management across local and international organisations, working between institutional cultural practice and grassroots initiatives. She is an active member of Girls Pay the Bills, a collective advocating gender equality and inclusion through arts, and Rame-Rame Jakarta, an independent research and media foundation exploring urban issues through interdisciplinary practice.

Luna’s current research focuses on socially engaged art and the futures of cultural heritage, with particular attention to Southeast Asian contexts.
