Lia Beatriz Colombino

Biography

Colombino holds a master’s degree in Museology from the University of Valladolid and is currently completing her doctoral dissertation in Arts at the Universidad Nacional de las Artes in Buenos Aires. Her critical and theoretical formation has been shaped by her participation in seminars including Identidades en Tránsito, Crítica Cultural, and Espacio/Crítica, led by Paraguayan critic Ticio Escobar.

She is a faculty member at the Universidad Nacional de Asunción and serves as part-time Director of the Instituto Superior de Arte. For the past 26 years, she has been an active collaborator of the Centro de Artes Visuales/Museo del Barro, an independent civil society organisation operating without public institutional funding. Her practice is grounded in a sustained commitment to placing Indigenous, popular, and Western art traditions on equal terms, a curatorial and political position that has shaped her professional trajectory.

She is the author of Este museo no es un museo, published in Asunción and Rosario, Argentina, and a member of the Red Conceptualismos del Sur, an international research network. Her curatorial practice includes numerous exhibitions across diverse institutions and contexts, including La Elocuencia de la Imagen, an exhibition on the photography of Francesc Català-Roca presented at the Museo de América in Madrid, as well as projects developed at the Centro Cultural de España, Asunción.

She is currently developing two solo exhibitions by Paraguayan artists: one dedicated to Bettina Brizuela at the Centro de Artes Visuales/Museo del Barro and another focused on Arnaldo Cristaldo at the Fundación Migliorisi. These projects continue her long-standing engagement with Paraguayan contemporary art and her broader exploration of how art articulates identity, memory, and territory.
