Proceedings of the 56th CIMAM Annual Conference Now Available

CIMAM makes available the Conference Proceedings from the 56th CIMAM Annual Conference at the CIMAM Digital Resources site.

The CIMAM 2024 Annual Conference was held in Los Angeles (USA), on December 6-8, co-hosted by The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), the Hammer Museum at UCLA, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), the lead sponsorship from the Getty Foundation.

The 2024 edition, titled Sustainable Futures: How? Where? For Whom?, brought together the voices of 21 guest speakers who explored the challenges and possibilities of sustainability in museums today, and engaged in a deep and wide-ranging conversation around sustainability in the museum field.

The proceedings capture the insights of 21 invited speakers who addressed urgent questions:
– How can museums navigate cycles of crisis and transformation while staying true to their missions?
– What does sustainability mean in different institutional, cultural, and geographic contexts?
– What practical strategies are museums implementing to become more socially, economically, and environmentally sustainable?
– And how can these efforts reflect the diverse realities of communities around the world?

Each year, CIMAM compiles and publishes the proceedings of its Annual Conference to document the key discussions and contributions that emerge from this global gathering of museum professionals. This online publication serves not only as a record of the event but also as a freely accessible resource for thse engaged in the research, production, and dissemination of contemporary art knowledge.
