The Govett-Brewster is looking for a Deputy Director

The Govett-Brewster Art Gallery is Aotearoa New Zealand’s leading museum of contemporary art. The latest addition to the Govett-Brewster, the Len Lye Centre, opened in 2015, is the county’s first institution dedicated to a single artist, the pioneering filmmaker and kinetic sculptor, Len Lye. We offer an integrated experience for audiences and peers through exhibition, education, mediation, outreach, and publishing, amongst other activities, focusing New Plymouth, Aotearoa New Zealand, and the Pacific.

Govett-Brewster Art Gallery/Len Lye Centre is currently looking for a Deputy Director (Business Development Lead), who is excited to support the Co-Directors/Chief Curators in the leadership of the gallery and play a key role in it’s future success. Reporting to the Co-Directors, the purpose of this role is to develop the organisation’s grants funding and related reports, lead the retail and customer services team, oversee our administrators, and play a strong role in the development of philanthropy, partnerships, and sponsorship with our key stakeholders. Your leadership style will help create a happy and healthy work environment.

The Deputy Director will have strong business acumen, be capable of leading a team, thrive in a dynamic and highly collaborative environment, and be committed to NPDC’s values, biculturalism, and multiculturalism.

To be successful in this role, you will have extensive experience in the development of cultural organisations, have successfully led a team, and a possess relevant tertiary qualification. Most importantly, you will be a team player with outstanding organisational skills and a strong business acumen that inspires people to achieve their best. You will also be passionate about contemporary art and be able to incite that same appreciation in others.

At New Plymouth District Council we aim to create and sustain a truly rewarding workplace environment for our staff. You can expect to start in this permanent full-time role with us between $86,604 – $93,339.
