This is an invitation on behalf of Anna Pluszyńska, PhD., from the Institute of Culture of the Faculty of Management and Social Communication at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow:
Kraków, September 15th, 2024
As an adjunct in the Institute of Culture Management of the Faculty of Management and Social Communication at the Jagiellonian University, I am happy to invite your Museum to our research about Museums’ Intellectual Property Management Processes.
Museums are the creators, users, and managers of content, so an integrated approach to managing intellectual property allows for the effective utilization of non-material resources for the realization of museums’ mission. The statement that museums make certain choices in the process of intellectual property management seems obvious. We can indicate the museums that open their resources, the museums that open their resources in part, and the museums that protect their works with an “all rights reserved” notice, even if the artwork belongs to the public domain. However, it is not about assessing which of these paths is better or worse, because the management process depends on the institution's capabilities, the needs of the team, and the effect the institution wants to achieve among its recipients. Therefore, it is not a finished product.
However, we lack sufficient knowledge about the factors that influence the decisions and choices of particular intellectual property management policies.
From the discovered research gap, the project aims at drawing attention to intellectual property’s role and importance in museums’ activity, learning about and evaluating museums’ previous activity in managing intellectual property and the answer to the question: what sociocultural, economic, and political-legal mechanisms affect the process of managing intellectual property in museums?
If you are a member of CIMAM, we invite you to participate in this research. You can do so by accessing the Members Only section and, from there, enter Participate in research.
