About KunstHausWien

The institution's main areas are: Modern & Contemporary Art.

KunstHausWien, founded by Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser in 1991, is one of Vienna's most notable landmarks, renowned for its distinctive architecture. As a museum and exhibition centre, it is devoted to exploring the multifaceted relationship between humans and nature, following the vision of its founder: The museum boasts the world's largest permanent display of Hundertwasser's works, juxtaposed with contemporary perspectives on ecology. Through solo exhibitions and thematic group shows featuring emerging and established artists, KunstHausWien addresses pressing issues related to climate, biodiversity, and the future, both within its local sphere and with international significance.

KunstHausWien places great emphasis not only on the content of its exhibitions but also on sustainability in its day-to-day operations. Visible and invisible processes within the museum are conducted according to the highest ecological standards. In 2018, KunstHausWien achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first museum to be awarded the Austrian Ecolabel (Österreichisches Umweltzeichen), reaffirming its commitment to environmental responsibility.

Since 2024, the KunstHausWien is organising the Klima Biennale Wien, a transdisciplinary festival in the city of Vienna.
