About Bienal Climática
Societies change not in straight lines, but through thresholds, moments when what once held the world together loosens, and what comes next has no name yet. We live under many overlapping climates: environmental, social, political, emotional, spiritual. Titled "Rehearsing the Unexpected", the first edition of Bienal Climática positions artists as guides, opening questions rather than offering fixed answers. Rooted in Avilés, Asturias, a post-industrial territory in transition, the nomadic biennial gathers over forty artists and collectives around three thematic axes. Weather Station, Present Industries y Grief and Joy. Present Industries examines extractive legacy and sustainability tensions. Mournings and Jubilations attends to what is lost, mourned, and collectively celebrated.
Spread across 13 venues, exhibitions with over 40 artists, public programs, participatory architecture, 60 public activities and community art-education experiments unfold as a constellation of practices for what is to come throughout a hundred days.
