SG is known and respected in Zimbabwe for starting the programme to train eye specialists at the University of Zimbabwe. He also established the first School of Optometry in Zimbabwe at the Bindura University of Science Education, where he was Chairman for 10 years. SG formed the Eyes for Africa Programme which performed free cataract surgeries on rural folks in Zimbabwe, Zambia, Namibia, Angola and Vietnam.
SG encourages local corporates and individuals to invest in our arts.
He believes that the level of development and sophistication of a society can be observed by how that society respects and invests in their artists and their work. As he puts it, “If we do not appreciate and invest in our artists and their work, we run the risk of being powerful, wealthy, educated, but not enlightened.”
