Fondazione Morra Greco
EDI Global Forum is an important international forum dedicated to the educational mission of museums, which aims to develop a platform to connect museums and cultural institutions, experts and educators to foster discussions on approaches, experiences and perspectives related to educational and social innovation through the lens of art. EDI Global Forum's main focus is education, conceived not as a practice of knowledge transfer but as knowledge sharing, specifically about relational and learning practices that museums engage in with their audiences. People who attend EDI become part of an active network of museum experts, researchers, educators, artists, curators, and students, who engage with urgent issues of our contemporary present (social impact, climate change, democratization of culture, decolonization), and also get hands-on experience of the pedagogical and educational approaches studied and shared during the year, and then selected for the on-site forum. The experiential part is the one that makes EDI a unique project as it gives experts (and not only) the opportunity to put into practice workshops, techniques and learning experiments. Contents are shared and co-created, applied in the field or brought back as discussions and reports, so as to contribute to educational and museum research.
Explain in one sentence why you think the project you nominate is outstanding and could serve as an example for the entire community of modern and contemporary art museums.
EDI Global Forum is a place of dialogue and experimentation for people who work in museums and cultural institutions, combining theory and practice to explore the social role of the museum through arts and culture.
Explain why this practice or program is relevant and sustainable in creating meaningful and lasting connections with people, communities, and the museum context with a medium to long-term vision.
The connections created thanks to EDI Global Forum are the real force behind the project. They came about spontaneously, first through online meetings and then with the Forum, and over the years they have become stronger and broader. Institutions and cultural organizations have found in EDI a gathering point for visions and practices, for shared projects and new ones to explore. The network is continuing to be active today, working groups have been set up to carry on discussions on EDI’s topics and on possible projects to be implemented in Naples, during the next Forum. Over the years EDI has become an important project for the city, because it connects local organizations (museums, universities, cultural associations, social cooperatives) with international ones, and also involves different authorities, like the City Council, putting together a network that works for the community and for the idea of the museum as a social innovator.
