Paula Nascimento
Paula Nascimento (Luanda, 1981) is architect and independent curator based in Luanda. Her work engages with visual art and cultural practices, working at the intersection of visual arts, urbanism, geopolitics, and arts education.
A significant aspect of her practice engages interdisciplinary methodologies and a focus on contemporary readings of historical themes on de/post-colonial discourses in and around the global south. She was an associate curator of the Vi and VII Lubumbashi Biennial and has developed projects and curated exhibitions internationally at Venice Biennial, Rencontres de Bamako – African Biennale of Photography, Experimenta Design, Triennale Milano, among others.
Currently she is the Chair of the artistic committee of Nesr Art Foundation, curator of African Section at Arco Lisboa, an advisor to Bienal Ano Zero (Coimbra) and a curatorial advisor to Hangar – Centre of Artistic Research. She has been awarded the Golden Lion for best national participation at the Venice Biennale in 2013 and several other awards.
