Whitechapel Gallery is recruiting a Director of Education and Public Programmes
The Daskalopoulos Director of Education & Public Programmes shapes education and interpretation policies, public programmes and the overall direction of the Whitechapel Gallery.
The Education and Public Programmes team use the exhibitions programme as the foundation for a wide portfolio of talks, symposia and screenings, alongside community, family and schools activities. In addition the team responds to new developments in a wider cultural context.
In addition to leading a team of five, this role also involves liaison with artists, academics and cultural practitioners, as well as numerous organisations including educational institutions and community organisations, funders from the public and private sectors and other arts organisations in Britain and abroad.
This position involves reporting to the Director and Trustees, working with the senior management team and representing the Whitechapel Gallery as part of our advocacy and fundraising activities and as a member of the arts community.
The successful candidate will have knowledge of modern and contemporary art from a global perspective; awareness of new developments in artistic practice and critical thinking; and experience in creating programmes of engagement and creativity.
Conditions of Work
- Contract: Permanent, Full Time
- Hours of work: 9.30am – 5.45pm, with some occasional evening and weekend work, which will be compensated by time off in lieu.
- Salary: £40,000- £50,000 per annum dependent on experience
- Period of notice: 3 months
- Probation period: 6 months
