Learn about CIMAM's new membership fees

19 September 2022

Ann-Sofi Noring explains the value of CIMAM's new membership fees for the upcoming membership term 2023-25 onward. Ann Sofi Noring is a CIMAM Board Member, Vice-Chancellor / Chairman Museum Advisor, and former Vice Director, Moderna Museet, Stockholm, Sweden.

"As a Board Member and long-time member of CIMAM, I'm very much in favor of a new system for our membership fees, which we are now proposing to you.

To pay more in rich regions such as mine and less in other parts of the world corresponds to the economic realities in different countries.

As I see it, together with the Board, this is a matter of equity. The adjusted fee system will be just and fair, and true to the standards of CIMAM.

Our proposal goes along the line with ICOMs as well, intending to make their fees accessible to members worldwide.

This way, the fees will no longer be a major obstacle to taking part in CIMAM, which stands for accessibility, inclusiveness, and diversity."

New CIMAM membership fees aligned with the ICOM scheme

During the CIMAM 2021 General Assembly held in November in Gdansk, Poland, the Board announced the plan to update the membership fees scheme to start implementing them in the next three-year membership term: 2023-25.

This initiative responds to CIMAM's purpose of being more equitable and inclusive with fees adjusted to the different geoeconomic realities of professionals worldwide.

The update in CIMAM’s membership rates will consist in aligning with ICOM and using the same criteria of membership fees by countries, according to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita by Purchasing Power Parity (PPP), guaranteeing equal access to CIMAM for all professionals around the world.

The new scheme proposes two membership types with a more diversified range of rate groups:

  • To Individual Members, CIMAM will offer 4 different fees to individuals according to the GDP PPP of their country.
  • To Institutional Members, CIMAM will offer 6 different fees according to the GDP PPP of their country and the operating budget of the museum/institution.

The new fees will be implemented during the upcoming membership three-year period (2023-25) and will be charged to CIMAM members by direct debit in December 2022.

CIMAM members pay the fees for the three years in one settlement. If joining or renewing in 2024, members will pay for two years. And in 2025, members will pay for one year.

The CIMAM Board encourages any questions and/or suggestions from CIMAM members about the new fees until 30 September 2022. The new fees will be presented for approval of the membership at the CIMAM’s 2022 General Assembly on Sunday 13 November.
