"I conceive and implement exhibitions in non profit spaces devoted to diverse audiences for pleasure, knowledge and engaged citizenship. I work in institutions that research, collect, conserve, interpret and exhibit tangible and intangible heritage. I work on public programs to enhance and encourage debate and use my privilege and platform to promote critical thinking and dialogue on cultural, social, environmental, and political issues. We must encourage the public to think critically about the world, to be inspired and to act for positive social change".

About John

Born in Montreal, John Zeppetelli was appointed Carol and Morton Rapp Curator, Modern and Contemporary Art, at The Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) in September 2024. He previously served as Director and Chief Curator of the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal (MAC) where he led the capital campaign for the renovation of MAC’s premises. He has previously held curatorial roles with Phi Foundation for Contemporary Art (DHC/ART) in Montréal, and Institute of Contemporary Arts in London, UK.

John has extensive experience at public and private galleries in both the US and UK in addition to curatorial and teaching roles in Quebec and Nova Scotia.

An award-winning filmmaker whose work has been screened internationally in festivals and galleries, John has also curated media arts festivals in both Canada and Europe. He has lectured in Video Art at NSCAD University and at Concordia University, where he also ran the MFA Visiting Artist Program.
