A warm welcome to CIMAM to Antonia Carver!
"Art Jameel's mission is to support artists and build creative communities, broadening access to the arts, for all. We are deeply engaged in thinking about the role of museums in a rapidly changing world, and from our region, one enduring situations of extreme conflict and where the climate crisis is being experienced, live. An entirely philanthropic endeavour, exchange and peer-to-peer learning is at the heart of everything Art Jameel does, and has been fundamental to me, throughout my career".
Antonia Carver, Director, Art Jameel, Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
"I am excited to become a member of CIMAM in order to share with and learn from my peers, and to be a part of a dynamic global network of comrades. This communal approach and collaborative spirit feels more urgent than ever, given the ways in which the arts are in danger of being written out of curricula and public life. Despite these challenges, we see in the Middle East region a resurgence in understanding of the central role the arts and museums can play in providing spaces for expression and for the exploration of some of the most pressing issues of our day -- explored through the work of contemporary artists and modernist histories that are vital to our understanding of ourselves and enable us to imagine and explore more just and participatory futures. I feel membership will not only support me in the position of museum director, but also enable me to better nurture and serve my team, the exhibitions and programmes we create/curate, and the communities our institutions serve".
