CIMAM Connects: Conversations around Contemporary Art Museum Practices

CIMAM Connects is a peer-led platform launched in 2024, where CIMAM members can propose topics, exchange ideas, and engage in open dialogue on the pressing issues shaping international museums and contemporary art. Sessions can be moderated by CIMAM members, creating a truly collaborative and interactive space.

Sessions this year will be held bimonthly and cover multiple time zones. Details about dates, session leaders, and topics will be updated soon.

Historical Recap

CIMAM Connects 2024: The first year featured four sessions covering topics such as Innovative Museum Exhibition Practices; Contemporary Art Museum Evolution and Social History; Art in Public Space and Community Participation; and Sustainability and Intersectionality.

CIMAM Connects 2025: Several international sessions were held, including: Recap of the Travel Grantees at the 56th Annual Conference in Los Angeles, Women in Art: Power, Trajectory, and Transformation, Learning from Nature: Rethinking Institutions in a More-Than-Human World, Museums at the End of the World, Bureaucracies of the Flesh

CIMAM Connects 2026: Upcoming Sessions: Members are invited to propose topics, lead 1-hour peer-to-peer discussions, and share international perspectives.

How to Get Involved

  • Propose a topic: Suggest themes that matter to you or build on conversations relevant to museum practice.
  • Lead a session: Kick off a 1-hour discussion with members from around the world.
  • Stay connected: Strengthen relationships, gain new perspectives, and foster international collaboration.

Session Structure

The networking session will last 1 hour, and participants are expected to:

  • Introductions (15 min): Each participant briefly shares their name, role, institution, and key points related to the topic.
  • Group Discussion (15 min): Session leaders introduce topics or questions for discussion.
  • Open Debate (30 min): The group reconvene to share key takeaways and propose topics for future sessions.

This structure promotes an informal, engaging, interactive, and participant-led conversation. If you plan to join any of these sessions, we encourage you to propose readings or ideas either in advance or after the conversation. These contributions will be shared as references and recommended readings on the topic.
