Bonniers Konsthall announces its first Curator Award!

What is BKH Curator Award?
Bonniers Konsthall is proud to announce its first Curator Award. Recognizing a need for new voices and an absence of opportunities, Bonniers Konsthall wishes to become a place for beginnings. Following decades of engagement with emerging artistic practices the award seeks to encourage new endeavors in the field of curating in the hopes of facilitating new trajectories.
Applicants are invited to submit a draft proposal for projects in and around Bonniers Konsthall’s “Gallery 1.” Four candidates will be asked to refine and reinforce their proposals together with Bonnier Konsthall staff. A jury consisting of Elena Filipovic, Omar Kholeif and Magnus af Petersens will select a winning proposal. The four finalists will receive a bursary of 1,000 EUR for their work. The award offers the winning proposal a stipend of 4,000 EUR. The winner will also be given all necessary institutional support in the organization of their exhibition.
Who can apply?
While we welcome proposals from curators of all ages and regions preference will be given to individuals who would benefit most from the professional development. The selected curator is anticipated to have some experience in the contemporary arts field, but does not regularly have the opportunity to curate exhibitions of their choice within their professional capacity.
How does it work?
Submission of draft proposals of maximum 500 words + a concise CV. The draft need not include specific artworks. An idea of artistic practices of interest will be appreciated. Please note that artists do not need to have been invited at this stage. Applications are to be submitted in a single PDF document, with the subject line “BKH Curator Award” to bkhcuratoraward@bonnierskonsthall.se. Deadline is June 15, 2019.
Gallery 1
While we encourage proposals to orientate around Gallery 1 applicants are welcome to submit projects that also extend beyond the gallery.

Budget
Applicants are expected to be mindful of the budget when submitting their proposals. The overall cost of the exhibition cannot exceed 25,000 EUR, including transport and installation. Bonniers Konsthall staff will help the shortlisted proposals to determining exact costs for their project and meet the budget.
What happens next?
A shortlist of four proposals will be selected by September 1. These four proposals are to be refined and reinforced together with Bonniers Konsthall staff. Applicants will at this stage make a selection of works, plan for programing and organize all other aspects of the exhibition.
On November 1st the jury convenes in Stockholm to select and announce the winning proposal. The winning proposal will open at Bonniers Konsthall on April 21st, 2020.
