Support Marta Gili, Director of Jeu de Paume

CIMAM wishes to express its support to Marta Gili, Director of Jeu de Paume, and the entire team at the Jeu de Paume who have received threats by groups and individuals who oppose the presentation of Ahlam Shibli’s work. We are against such pressures on any cultural institution dedicated to promoting the principles of artistic expression and freedom.

Ahlam Shibli is one of the most important photographers of her generation. Her work has been presented in museums around the world. The exhibition Phantom Home is the first complete survey dedicated to this Palestinian artist´s practice.

The programming of art institutions is done for the construction of a civil and public space of debate and of a critical discussion around the experiences we share. Art institutions are for freedom, respect and debate; never for repression, violence nor censorship.

CIMAM wishes to encourage debate and civilized exchange of ideas and wants to express the deep concern for the turn of the actions against the freedom of artistic expressions and of the values of dialogue defended by the Jeu de Paume.

CIMAM has initiated a petition addressed to Aurélie Filippetti, French Minister of Culture and Communication, to support Marta Gili, director of Jeu de Paume and the entire team of Jeu de Paume.
